A New Year is Coming

Posted on December 27, 2008. Filed under: Homeschool |

As I prepare for the new year to start, I’m looking over the curriculum and program that we’ve used so far. We’ve intentionally taken it really slow this first semester so that we can all get accustomed to being home more. In addition, our focus has been more on manners and respect, than “the 3 R’s”. I’m still not sure how much we’ve accomplished in that area, but I’m not giving up on anything just yet.

Now, we’re looking at starting more structured learning time. I’m so excited to finally begin the steps toward teaching Gio to read. After a lot of prayer and review, we’re going to be starting a very different curriculum from what is taught in most schools. We’re going to be using a program called “Spell to Write and Read” by Wanda Sanseri. All your prayers are greatly appreciated as this program has a steep learning curve for the instructor, but amazing results when it can be followed. In addition, we will be starting with cursive writing instead of manuscript. We will be using the “Cursive First” program which is a part of SWR.

We’ll be continuing with our science studies as well as both Miquon and Singapore math, adding in more music and play time as we master these subjects. Right now it seems like we’re going to be having a very full semester, but I know that it’s going to be a fun one.
